Discover the magic of Tahodio Avocado Experience: nature, culture, and the taste of avocado

There are places that wrap you in their history, landscape, and scent.
The Tahodio Valley, in Tenerife, is one of them — a hidden corner in the Anaga Massif where nature flows with the same serenity as it did centuries ago. Here, water murmurs through the rocks, and vegetation unfolds in all its splendor, creating a unique ecosystem recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

This is the heart of Tahodio Avocado Experience, a project born from a passion for the land and a desire to share the best of Canary agricultural culture.

A Family Legacy
The farm where this experience takes place is a family legacy. Over a century ago, this land became part of my family’s story. My grandfather, Dr. Luis González-Coviella, devoted his life to medicine and to the people of the island, with a generous spirit that still inspires what we do today.

He used to walk these trails to visit his patients, in a time when money wasn’t always the means of exchange — instead, it was the land’s products. Eggs, cheese, almonds… every visit was a human exchange that strengthened the bond between people and nature.

From Bananas to Avocados
Since then, the farm has gone through many transformations. For years, it was a banana plantation, until in the 2000s, we decided to switch to avocados — a superfood that has conquered the world thanks to its nutritional properties and versatility in the kitchen.

The avocado, or Persea americana, has a fascinating history. Originally from Mexico and Guatemala, it was considered sacred by the Aztecs, who called it ahuacatl and attributed it with aphrodisiac properties. When the Spanish conquistadors discovered it, they brought it to Europe, and over time, it spread to other parts of the world.

In Tenerife, the subtropical climate and volcanic soil allow the avocado to thrive with exceptional quality. It’s no wonder that Canary avocados are so appreciated in European markets.

On our farm, we mainly grow Hass and Fuerte varieties, although we plan to incorporate others like Pinkerton, Bacon, Reed, and a local variety known as Orotava, which has a unique story — it descends from specimens brought from Cuba.

Sustainable Agriculture, Seasonal Work
The quality of an avocado is closely tied to how it is grown. At Tahodio Avocado Experience, we are committed to sustainable farming practices. We use optimized irrigation systems, prune trees to strengthen and control their growth, and promote cross-pollination with beehives to improve fruit yield.

Throughout the year, farm work changes with the seasons. In late winter, the avocado trees bloom, beginning the fascinating process of pollination, where bees and other insects play a crucial role. In spring, the fruit matures, while autumn and winter are key harvesting periods.

Each tree is a small ecosystem, and the knowledge we’ve gained over the years helps us adapt cultivation to the unique climate conditions of the Anaga Massif.

Taste and Health Benefits
But the magic of the avocado is not just in how it’s grown — it’s also in its taste and health benefits. This is a fruit rich in healthy fats, especially omega-3, which helps protect the heart and reduce cholesterol.

It also contains high levels of essential vitamins like A, C, D, E, and K, and minerals such as potassium and magnesium, which support muscle health and blood pressure regulation. It’s an excellent source of dietary fiber, making it a great ally for digestion and weight management.

Gastronomy and Culture
Gastronomy is another pillar of our experience. Avocados can become true culinary delights, and at our farm, we invite you to discover them.

Our proposal goes beyond just tasting. We want visitors to have a complete experience — one that connects them to the land and the avocado’s story.

During the farm tour, you’ll learn about avocado cultivation, the importance of pruning, reproductive cycles, and efficient irrigation methods. You’ll also discover the biodiversity of the Tahodio Valley, home to numerous native bird and plant species.

Hiking and Disconnection
Hiking in Anaga is another attraction you can add to your visit. Following ancient paths surrounded by laurel forest and towering mountains, you’ll step into a landscape that feels frozen in time.

This is a chance to disconnect from the city, recharge, and reconnect with nature — something more and more travelers are seeking during their stay in Tenerife.

Tourism with Purpose
We love the idea that our visitors don’t just leave with a memory, but with knowledge they can apply in their own lives.

In a world dominated by mass tourism, Tahodio Avocado Experience offers a different approach: sustainable tourism rooted in nature, designed to inspire.

Our location, just five minutes from Santa Cruz, allows us to offer an authentic escape without needing to travel far. Every aspect of the experience is designed to respect the environment and promote the consumption of local products, helping strengthen the island’s economy.
